The Police Forces of Cheshire

These are the forces which at one time served the Cheshire area. They are now part of the Cheshire Constabulary, Merseyside Police and Greater Manchester Police.
Force Founded            History
Birkenhead 1833 1967 became part of the Cheshire Constabulary, 1974 became Merseyside
Birkenhead Parks 1923 1974 became Wirral Parks Police
Cheshire 1857 County Force
Cheshire Lines 1865 1948 became British Transport Police
Chester 1836 1949 became part of the Cheshire Constabulary
Congleton 1836 1947 became part of the Cheshire Constabulary
Hyde 1899 1947 became part of the Cheshire Constabulary,  1974 became Manchester
Macclesfield 1836 1947 became part of the Cheshire Constabulary 
Manchester Ship Canal 1893 1993 became part of the Port of Liverpool Police
Stalybridge 1857 1947 became part of the Cheshire Constabulary,  1974 became Manchester
Stockport 1870 1967 became part of the Cheshire Constabulary,  1974 became Manchester
Wallasey 1913 1967 became part of the Cheshire Constabulary, 1974 became Merseyside
Warrington 1847 1969 became Lancashire, 1974 became part of Cheshire Constabulary
Widnes 1839 Policed as a division of Lancashire Constabulary. 1974 became part of Cheshire
Wirral Parks 1974 1982 disbanded. Area part of Merseyside
