Yfithregard to the recent explosions,the following information is suppliad to a11 ranks both for the safety o£ the public and their own • safety. The method of ignitingthe explosive substance is aa fol],owsa- An ordinaryalarm clock is placed faca downwardaand a sma11 block of wood is faetenedto the back of the clock juat near the a1arm winder. Two pieces of electricalwire äre led from the wooden block through ea ordinary Grid Bias batterytb a detonatorwhich is buried in explosive substance in sacking. An electrical contact is made by the alarm winder (at the baok of the clock)which in tur ing on its axis pushes a brass strip (solderedto the end of one wire) on to tha end of the other wire, so completingthe circuit. If anywhere you see a contrivanceso arranged ON NO ACCOUNTTOUCH THE CLOCKor you make the contact. Listen to tha clock to hear whether it is ticking. If it is ticking, obtain a pair o£ wire cuttersAND CUT ONE VFIREONLY. Be most careful not to pu11 the wire when you are cutting it, then bend those ends which you have cut, away from each other. SRhenyou have done this, remain at the scene and as soon as you can, arrange for a message to be sent to the Superintendent'sOffice,who wi11 telephoae C.I.D. Headquarters. The Chief Constablewi11 arrange for an Explosive Expert to be sent to dismantlethe apparatus. If the clock is not t'icking,do not touch anything but remain there and have a message sent to tha Superintendent'sOffice, who wi11 telephone C.I.D. Headquarters. REMEMBER,DO NOT TOUCH7HE CLOCKON ANY ACCOUNT. Onoe you have cut a wire in the place shown in the diagram, the 1. apparatus bacomes comparativelyharmless. . A pair of wire cutters havi been suppliedto Polioe Stations. For your own sake make sure you are told the nearest point at which you can obtain a pair of wire cutters immediately. Constableson Rura1 Heats wi11 immediatelyascertainthe nearest place from which they can obtain a pair of wire cutters, if required.
