X Hello Ron,Where to start with this one? You are correct whenyou say that police officers were also fireman, when they became separate forces I have no idea. And if I just slip it in here that CheshireConstabulary was formed in 1857 and wasresponsible for the whole of the County includingWallasey.Within the Cheshire Police database we have 13officers by the surname Davies, by process ofelimination there are only two that were membersof the Wallasey Borough Police (WBP) (1) WilliamDavies joined 20th November 1918 (2) William HenryDavies joined 2nd January 1940, he left forservice in WWII, and rejoined WBP on the 11th July1941, (this officer looks promising I think) Nowthis is where the problems start, because theywere WBP this means that there are no personalrecords for them as this force only came intobeing on the 1st April 1913, it remained as aBorough Force until 1967, and then again becamepart of Cheshire Constabulary until 1974, it thenbecame part of Merseyside, so Merseyside may havesomething, but I should warn you that if you arecontacting Merseyside Police, their police officerarchives are extremely poor. Taking this a stagefurther within Cheshire Constabularies GeneralOrders for the year 1913, there is a definitivelist of all those that were members of CheshireConstabulary but who transferred their service toWBP on the 1st April 1913, there is one Daviesamongst them and he was John Davies. Effectivelythis would perhaps rule out that they ever servedwithin the Cheshire Constabulary. You mentioned Manor Road; this is in fact the nameof the road in Wallasey where both the WBP and theWallasey Fire Brigade (WFB) had theirHeadquarters, again it tends to suggest that theywere WBP/WFB.There are two books that I would recommend by NoelE. Smith, Part One Helmets, Handcuffs and Hoses. The Story of the Wallasey Borough Police and FireBrigade (ISBN 0-95177623-1), in the main this isabout the Wallasey Borough Police, it is full ofphotographs, it also gives the list of thoseofficers that transferred from CheshireConstabulary as mentioned above. Part Two Helmets,Handcuffs and Hoses. The Story of the WallaseyBorough Police and Fire Brigade (ISBN0-9517762-4-X) again there are numerous picturesand at the rear shows many fire officers namesincluding a W. Davies and a William Davies.I am sorry Ron that's about all I have for you,but if you think I may be able to help with aspecific question please don't hesitate to comeback to me.Lastly in September 2007, an Angela Jennings didcontact me requesting information on WilliamDavies of the Wallasey Borough Police I presumethis is your cousin and the same William Davies asthe one you are enquiring about. In essence I wasonly able to mention about the same as I havegiven you.Sincere best wishes Jim.Trustee and ResearcherMuseum of Policing in Cheshire.
