X PatronGerald Cavendish GrosvenorDuke of Westminster, KG, CB, OBE, TD, DLHello Tim,I understand from Peter Wroe that he has e-mailedyou saying we unfortunately do not have anyrecords or photographs of Peter I would not giveup hope at the moment as you can see I haveattached a copy of the 1901 Census for Prestwichprison (which As I said will mean Strangeways)which clearly shows Peter as an inmate. Whilst Ido have access to Manchester Prison Records theyonly run up to 1881, post this I think they arestill held at Manchester Council Archives soperhaps this is where your next searches should bebecause I feel certain that the prison recordsmust hold his photograph, to this end I have wouldperhaps visit the following :-http://www.manchester.gov.uk/libraries/arlshttp://www.manchester-family-history-research.co.uk/new_page_16.htmhttp://yourarchives.nationalarchives.gov.uk/index.php?title=HM_Prison,_Manchester_(Strangeways)I have also attached both his Militia and RegularArmy Service papers. I don't know if you arefamiliar with Military phraseology but on page 4of his Militia papers it states that he wasconvicted at Warrington and sentenced to 1 monthHard Labour for fraudulent enlistment 17th August1893, I can't quite follow this unless it meansthat he joined twice to obtain the enrolmentbounty? His service with the South LancashireRegiment starts on the 19th December 1894 and fromFebruary 1895 he seems to have spent the rest ofhis service in prison concluding in June 1895 withhis service towards pension forfeited on beingdischarged as "Incorrigible and worthless"I also have access to the British NewspaperOn-Line Newspaper Archives and I have carried outnumerous searches under several spellings of hissurname again nothing has turned up.As I said Tim I have no control over the cost ofthe Army Papers and in all the cost is £5 intotal, payment can be made by going to the Museumwebsite www.museumofpolicingincheshire.org.ukwithin the drop down 'Index' is the section marked'Family Research' there it will be seen 'Pay-Palor Debit/Credit Card' click on this and follow theinstructions, when payment is received by theMuseum Pay-Pal will automatically let the Museumknow.
