X Michael and Matthew STRINGERDear Alan,Thank you for your enquiry for informationconcerning Michael and Matthew sadly we don't havea great deal of information on Michael and nothingat all on Matthew, and to explain the reasons why.The Cheshire Constabulary was formed in April1857; there are many thousands of records, theseare held by the Cheshire Record Office, Chester. As a retired Police officer and voluntary PoliceMuseum Researcher I am slowly extracting theserecords. Michael does not appear as a member ofthe Cheshire Constabulary. You will be aware thatwhilst Stalybridge was part of Cheshire at thetime Michael served, he was in fact a member ofthe Stalybridge Borough Police, this being anindependent police force between 1857 and 1947,only then on amalgamation did it become part ofthe Cheshire Constabulary, sadly not all theofficers records came across with them, hence whywe have no trace of Matthew. The only thing I cansuggest is that you contact Greater ManchesterPolice Museum, via the internet and see if theyhave any further information.
