X William H.S. PEERSDear Cassie,Thank you for your nicely worded request forinformation concerning William you would besurprised how many enquires we get from people whonever say please or thank you, but sadly I am notgoing to be of much assistance to you and toexplain the reasons as to why.Wallasey was always a Borough within the County ofCheshire and as such was policed by the CheshireConstabulary between 1857 and 1913. In 1913Wallasey formed it is own police force know as"Wallasey Borough Police" it remained as a totallyindependent police force right up to 1967, whennumerous Borough police forces within the Countywere amalgamated into the Cheshire Constabulary. It only remained as part of the CheshireConstabulary until 1974, when local Governmentboundary changes took place and the area ofWallasey was taken over and policed by theMerseyside police, all very confusing I know. Soall in all the records you seek for members of theSpecial Constabulary for Cheshire would have onlyexisted between 1967 and 1974, and I am sad to saythat Cheshire do not hold any records for thisperiod of time and we have no idea if any exist, the only suggestion I can make is that Merseysidepolice may hold them.Mrs Kate MacNichol, the Merseyside Police recordsManager may be contacted onpolice do not have an Archives/Museum departmentas such and Kate deals with all the family historyenquiries herself together with her normal duties,so there may be a considerable delay before youget a reply.I am truly sorry I have been unable to assist youwith your research however I did try and see ifanything was of note on the internet and only cameup with one item from The Times NewspaperArchives, this refers to his 'Will' I haveattached this information.Best wishes Jim Talbot, Trustee and ResearcherMuseum of Policing in Cheshire.
