In the household was mygrandmother, Louisa Harriet JONES (daughter ofRobert SMITH) my parents, Phyllis May and PhilipFrederick HUNT, my sister Patrica Anne, plus mymother's brother, my uncle, Arthur JONES.I attended Hoole Primary School, Walker Street,Hoole then Westminster Road Junior school, Hoole.In 1960 mum, dad, Pat and I moved to 40 Kingsway,Newton, Chester where I attended Woodfield Juniorschool, Newton and Hoole Secondary Modern,opposite where I lived.In 1966 I left school and worked as an apprenticegatemaker for an Eric MEREDITH at Egerton Street,Chester. Eric was at one time the editor of 'TheEagle' boys magazine. Several months later I wasmade redundant and joined the Post Office workingin the stores at The Head Post Office St JohnStreet, Chester. At 17, I became a telegram boyriding a BSA 125cc motorcycle. (Retired Det SuptFrank MORGAN had previously been a telegram boy atsame place.) I later became a postman, postmandriver then a Postman Higher Gradeworking at thesorting office opposite Chester Railway Station.I left the post office in 1974 to join the police.In May 1974 I jwent to Bruche Training Centre. Ipassed out on Friday the 2 August 1974 and gotmarried the nexrt day to my wife Alison Jane PAYfrom 4 Moorhouse Close, Upton, Chester. We gotmarried at the Church of the Holy Ascension,Church Lane, Upton, Chester. We bought our firsthouse and moved back to Hoole living at 56 HewittStreet.After Bruche I was posted to Chester Policestation, at Cheshire Police HQ on B block. I didfoot patrol Chester city centre and became a pandadriver covering Hoole, boughton and Vacars Crossand other parts. In November 1977 after a spellin Plain Clothes I became a CID aide untilbecoming a Detective Constable in April 1978. InJuly 1977 we moved to 53 Alwyn Gardens UptonChester. On the 1 September 1983 I was promotedto Uniformed Sergeant at Runcorn ( havingpreviously been Acting Detecive Sergeant atRuncorn for 3 months) and 12 months latertransferred as Detective Sergeant to the SeriousCrime Squad, Runcorn. In November 1986 I movedback to Chester CID followed by promotion toDetective Inspector HQ Crime Prevention on the 1September 1987. In July 1984 I moved to mypresent house ar 9 Well Lane, Newton, Chester.This is a cottage built in 1887 to commemorate thegolden anniversary of Queen Victoria.In January 1988 I moved back to Runcorn as theDetecive Inspector taking over from our currentDeputy Chief Constable Graeme GERRARD. A yearlater I came back to Chester as the DI there. Onthe 25 August 1990 our only child was born EleanorKathryn HUNT (now 19 years old studying Pyschologyat Leeds University). In 1992 I transferred backto the Serious Crime Squad at Northwich and twoyears later became the Crime Manager at EllesmerePort.On the 1 September 1995 I was promoted to ChiefInspector in the Complaints and DisciplineDepartment where I remained until retiring on the18 May 2001. The following week I became acivilian Firearms Enquiry Officer first working atSanbach Police Station before moving to the New HQat Winsford at Christmas 2003. I remain ther tothis day. My patch is Congleton, Holmes Chapel,Middlewich, Mow Cop, Alsager, Lower Peover,Goostrey, Allostock and all the surroundingvillagers and hamlets.Hobbies over the years have been gardening(growing my own veg) Judo, walking. I walkregularly with another retired bobby Mike VICKERS.We have a touring caravan and try to get away asmuch as possible.I have been happily married for 35 years. Mymother grandmother Louisa died in 1963 aged 69, mymother died in 1990 aged 61 yrs and my father diedin 2003 aged 76. My wifes parents Margaret HopePAY nee FIELD is 88yrs old and her husband WilfredJames Hinderwell PAY is 95 yrs old having beenborn the same year the the first world warstarted.
